What can you expect in this role?

Our Total Rewards team plays an important role in supporting the attraction, engagement, and retention of our key talent.  Reporting to the AVP, Total Rewards and leading a team of seven, including two direct leadership reports, the Director, Total Rewards is accountable for working with the business, HR colleagues and functional partners to deliver total rewards programs that are integrated with, and support, our Employee Promise and the company’s business strategy. 

The Director Total Rewards is responsible for leading the compensation and total rewards programs teams and all related activities. Accountabilities include:

  • partnering with the AVP, Total Rewards, to develop a comprehensive total rewards strategy that aligns employee rewards with results in support of business objectives
  • building a Total Rewards Centre of Excellence aligned with a high impact HR operating model, including streamlined processes to ensure a high level of client satisfaction, that support the provision and evolution of our programs.
  • establishing key metrics for programs to ensure alignment and measure success
  • leading a team of total rewards leaders and professionals by encouraging a collaborative, values-driven team culture of high productivity and innovation in an environment that fosters team development and individual potential
  • operational leadership of existing programs (compensation, job framework & job evaluation, pensions, benefits, wellness, health & safety, medical recovery, recognition) plus support for the delivery of executive compensation and reward programs
  • championing the development of new total rewards programs that are competitive, equitable, and affordable
  • partnering with HR leadership, senior business leaders and HR Business Partners to understand business strategy and anticipate needs to guide the total rewards team with designing programs and structures to support business needs
  • managing, maintaining and cultivating vendor relationships
  • supporting the preparation of Total Rewards related materials (reporting, disclosure, etc.) for senior leaders and the Board of Directors
  • maintaining a pulse on industry, market and legal intelligence for total rewards trends

What do you bring to the role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CHRL and CCP certification preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience (leading the design and implementation of compensation structures, policies, and governance, including experience working with job evaluation and pay equity; experience with managing benefit and retirement programs including plan design, vendor negotiations, renewals, financial analysis, and communications) 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership audiences
  • Ability to organize and accomplish objectives independently and proactively
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and develop a course of action
  • Strong project management with the ability to plan, organize and resource assignments of substantial variety and complexity
  • Business acumen, collaboration, and client-focused mentality to develop and strengthen business relationships
  • Ability to influence, drive decisions and lead discussions utilizing data
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented environment, with the ability to navigate complex issues while maintaining attention to detail
  • Significant judgement and maturity in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information
