What can you expect in this role?

Reporting to the Manager, HR Shared Services, the Team Lead, Payroll is accountable for the delivery of full-cycle payroll for all employee groups across Canada. The Team Lead, Payroll leads and develops a team of payroll analysts and specialists and ensures compliance with Employment Standards legislation and related payroll and tax regulations.

What will you do?

  • Provide leadership to the payroll team to ensure that payroll is processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure that their operational and informational requirements related to payroll & resource management metrics are met in a timely fashion
  • Accountable for accuracy and timeliness of related remittances for payroll taxes.
  • Payroll processing for key employee groups, e.g. Executives.
  • Ensure that internal payroll policies and procedures meet the requirements of provincial and federal regulations. Update and support the development of new policies as required.
  • Drive process improvement to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll process.
  • Coach and mentor the team; positively impacting overall team engagement and development of team members.
  • Lead team to execute on year end related activities: including but not limited to updating Dayforce payroll platform with new year annual rates, employee profile benefit and savings plan updates payroll platform reconciliation of all transactions through to production of annual tax statements aligning to deadlines and production of T2200’s.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information in alignment with privacy legislation and internal controls.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Certified Payroll Manager Certification (CPM) Designation
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing a Payroll team
  • Previous experience using Ceridian Dayforce or similar platform
  • An expert understanding of payroll legislation and administration, including understanding of pension and benefits administration.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate with various levels across the organization.
  • Adept at decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Highly organized and a natural multi-tasker, able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer-focused approach with a constant view of continuously improving and streamlining the payroll process.
  • Experience with software applications including MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel etc.) and Oracle HR software.
