The Technical Lead, Development is accountable for the overall quality of the technical solution being delivered to the business or IT and supports self-organizing teams to effectively realize development quality, delivery and operational commitments. The successful candidate is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to help coordinate the team's day-to-day efforts, work with solution architects to define high level solution architecture[SK1] , work with designers [SK2] to define the detailed design and collaborate with supporting teams e.g., infrastructure, Service Ops, DevOps for the design, build, and operations of solutions.

Service / Solution Design & Development Support

  • Provides the project team with technical direction and is accountable for the overall technical design and development of the solution or release
  • Is accountable configuration and customization of our SaaS solution (e.g., prototypes and Wireframes), with the assistance of the Business Analyst, and consultation of Designer, Developer, Solution Architect, Technical Tester and Test Analyst[SK1] 
  • Is accountable to define the infrastructure [SK2] and operational requirements; design for the solution with the assistance of Solution Architect and Infrastructure Specialist

Expertise in Economical's SDLC methodology (e.g., Agile / Lean)

  • Assists in the translating business objectives[SK3]  into a story map in collaboration with the business analysts
  • Collaborates with the Scrum Master and the team to develop and maintain the backlog, facilitate Stand-Ups and Retrospectives, and develop the Sprint and release plan

People Management & Development

  • Provides technical direction and coaching to the team, and helps coordinate their work and provides service and technical orientation for new team members
  • Obtains stakeholder buy-in and acceptance for application and technical designs
  • Supports the performance management process by providing the Team Lead and Manager with periodic input on individual team member's performance
  • Ensures that the development resources [SK5] are using consistent practices, processes, standards, and tools that align to Economical's SDLC methodology (e.g., Agile / Lean)
  • Ensures that design and development knowledge is codified, monitored, and managed

Operational & Risk Management

  • Helps monitor development-related risks and issues, and escalates to IT leadership and business as appropriate
  • Assesses the likely impact of risks [SK6] based on the complexity of the solution and other influencing factors such as the experience level of the individual or the team, the novelty of the technique, application or language, the condition of the source data, etc.
  • Helps define the risk response (mitigate, ignore, transfer, accept) to eliminate / minimize the risk
  • Documents sound software designs, processes, and coding practices so that their projects are completed on time and with quality

What do you bring to the role?

  • You understand Environment and infrastructure requirements [SK1] planning and the importance of solution performance scalability, reliability and security
  • You have demonstrated knowledge; can coach teams to adopt and continuously improve application design and development trends, practices and architecture
  • Your highly flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • You enjoy staying up to date with [SK2] emerging development platforms, tools and frameworks that can best optimize project and business outcomes
  • University Degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of software / application analysis, design, development and delivery experience
  • 3+ years of formal or informal leading of development teams
  • 4+ years of relevant work delivering Oracle ERP / HCM Cloud technology solutions
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud reporting tools like BI Publisher, Oracle Transactional BI (OTBI), Financial Reporting Studio (FRS) is an asset
  • Experience with middleware tool(s) like Oracle Integration Cloud, SOA Suite, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi is an asset
  • Experience with web services and programming languages - including SOAP & REST Web Services, XPATH/XSLT, JavaScript, Java, PL/SQL
  • Experience and interest in leading edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, RPA
  • Knowledge on Oracle PaaS & IaaS products is an asset
  • Oracle ERP application(s) functional experience is an asset
  • Relevant industry-related certifications such as Kanban Certified Professional, Certified Scrum Master, ITIL are considered an asset
