Specialist, GIS (Geographic Information System)

Reporting to the Pricing Director, your responsibilities include implementing/maintaining GIS applications and workflows, creating maps, improving current tools, and reviewing geospatial data. Projects are varied and include revamping our current territorial system and helping with various mappings analysis. In this role, you will have exposure to rating and product development work in climate change, catastrophe modelling, personal lines (auto & property), with valuable project leadership opportunities and career development potential.

What can you expect in this role?

• Create, develop, and implement geospatial applications and workflows
• Develop and provide insights related to geography and the various ways to analyze geographic exposure
• Perform and review geospatial modeling and spatial analysis (data preparation, data cleaning, etc.)
• Identify opportunities for process efficiencies across business areas
• Create and/or update high quality custom maps
• Communicate GIS concepts and be persuasive in providing recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. (verbally and written)
• Provide mentorship and coaching to team members
• Administer and troubleshoot applications and GIS solutions
• Act as key contact for requests of internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership team

What do you bring to the role?

• Bachelor in GIS, geography/GIS, cartography, planning, environmental, computer science or a related field
• A Masters or Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline (an asset)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS analytics
• Knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts such as cartography, spatial analysis and spatial indexes.
• Experience using GIS Software: CARTO, QGIS, ESRI suite (Arcgis PRO, Arcmap), Mapinfo, etc
• Experience using data cloud platform: Google Cloud, AWS, etc.
• Experience with infrastructure (an asset)
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office Products
• Strong coding skills (SQL, R, Python)
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently
• Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical staff
• Must have excellent verbal and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
