This Risk Consultant position will be a "work from home" position with some visits to our Waterloo branch.
As a Risk Services Consultant reporting directly to the Risk Services Manager, Commercial Insurance your key accountability will be to inspect all classes of commercial properties to assess property conditions, identify hazards and provide recommendations. You will also provide consultative services to our clients that include on site advice and training. As an integral part of the Risk Services team, this position operates within the southwestern region of Ontario including Windsor, Sarnia, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and surrounding areas depending upon workload. Some overnight travel will be required.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Completing physical risk surveys, including infrared camera survey, when required, of commercial properties to identify hazards and evaluate controls on a timely basis.
- Preparing technical reports at the completion of each survey or evaluation along with supporting documentation.
- Providing recommendations for risk improvement.
- Provide consultative services to clients as value add including technical advice and training.
- Working independently, completing risk control surveys within company standards, including completion of written reports and special supplements.
- Providing added value to our customers and overall, positively impacting the company results.
- Developing and maintaining good working relationships with Underwriters, Commercial Brokers, and Policyholders by discussing hazards and recommendations, assisting with implementation strategies, identifying training opportunities, and assisting with developing technical training material.
- Respond to technical referral questions from Underwriters.

Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education (University Degree or 2+ Year College Diploma) in a relevant discipline such as college technology diploma or skilled trades certification (e.g. Electrician, Fire Protection Technology, Electrical Technology, Construction Technology) or equivalent education.
- Technical training related to risk control would be an asset. (i.e. RMS School, related fire protection programs, construction, security, etc.)
- Working towards or completion of relevant designations such as CRM (Canadian Risk Management) and CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional) would be an asset.
- Experience in commercial operations such as manufacturing and processing.
- Knowledge of Thermographic Imaging with ASNT Level 1 qualifications would be an asset.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel with keyboarding skills.
- Company vehicle will be provided therefore a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to our company is required.
Salary Range: $58,100 - $106,900
