What you can expect in this role
The Director, Reinsurance is responsible for the management of all aspects of our reinsurance portfolio including operations strategy, accounting, finance and placements. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Development, Reinsurance, Capital and Treasury Management, this role serves as a strategic partner to commercial, personal, claims, finance and actuarial leaders at Definity in addition to external brokers and reinsurers to meet business needs for growth of reinsurance arrangements.
Responsibilities include:
- End-to-end management of the annual reinsurance renewal placement and other ad hoc reinsurance placements / opportunities
- Strong partnership with our Commercial, Personal, and Claims business units to support reinsurance growth aspirations and risk management
- Management of internal and external monthly, quarterly, and year-end reinsurance reporting
- Ownership of the reinsurance strategic planning and forecasting processes
- Research and drive forward process and system improvements to support business transformations and increase the efficiency and availability of reinsurance data
- Develop relationships with reinsurance brokers and reinsurance partners to support renewal placements, pricing, and value-added activities
- Manage the reinsurance team, mentor, guide and share knowledge across the team
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a related field of study (e.g. finance)
- 10+ years of experience in reinsurance
- 5+ years of people management experience
- In-depth knowledge of reinsurance and insurance products, processes, contracts, reinsurers, and reinsurance market
- In depth understanding of systems and accounting / finance processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation facilitation
- Ability to interact with senior executives as well as technical underwriters, claims, and wording specialists
- Ability to manage a high performing specialist team and work cross functionally
- Ability to develop, form and articulate business strategies and cases and present materials internally and externally
Preferred Qualifications
- CIP and CPA designations
- P&C insurance industry experience
Salary Range: $101,000 - $186,000
