What can you expect in this role?

We are looking for Technology Solutions Co-op. Through this work, you will be utilizing both system analysis and technical skills. You will gain significant exposure to Data Engineering practices, exposure to distributed computing systems, and visibility into the business allowing you to understand policy lifecycle management and how distributed modern architectures are used to communicate to legacy-based environments.

This is an ideal opportunity for third- and fourth-year students. This position reports to the Big Data Team Lead and receives day-to-day supervision from the Project Manager and/or Technical Lead/Specialist.

What you’ll be doing

  • Understanding Data engineering concepts and technologies
  • Preparing Data sample, Data ingestion and transformation in Google Cloud
  • Coding in either Python, Spark or Scala 
  • Writing Shell Scripts
  • Documenting process using Confluence
  • Writing SQL based queries
  • Understanding different file formats (e.g. AVRO, ORC, Parquet) and data movement into and out of Cloud based DBs.
  • Gaining experience of issue tracking (Jira), source code management (Bitbucket), continuous integrations tools (Jenkins), build tools, package management and testing framework
  • Exposure to cloud technology

What you bring

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time University or College Co-op program related to Computer/Software Engineering
  • Understanding Data engineering technologies

The hourly compensation for the role starts at $22/h and will increase based on factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, and the recommended rates as set by the respective educational institution.
