What can you expect in this role?

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Financial Analyst (“FA”) is responsible for supporting the preparation of financial reporting materials, and providing Finance customers with value-added information and analysis to assist in their decision-making process. The FA will be a key contributor in delivering accurate financial results, including:

  • Supporting the preparation of external financial reporting materials, including quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, financial news releases, and monthly management commentary
  • Preparing journal entries and reconciliations, including the accounting for our investment portfolio, while adhering to month end deadlines
  • Supporting investor relations with financial information and analysis
  • Preparing schedules and analyses to support external reporting disclosures
  • Self-review work performed for reasonability, completeness and accuracy; conduct variance analysis to identify and understand key trends 
  • Supporting external audits by providing interim and year-end documentation, respond to audit inquiries, and conduct process walk throughs
  • Research and analyze accounting policies and standards under IFRS
  • Work to continuously enhance current processes and reports in terms of accuracy and efficiency

What do you bring to this role?

  • Completed university degree, preferably in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
  • CPA designation, or working towards a CPA designation
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Self-starter who can identify opportunities for improvement and execute on them
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet firm deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze accounting policies and standards, with specific knowledge and experience with IFRS considered an asset
  • Ability to analyze and understand the implications of business activities on the financial statements
  • Prior experience working in public companies or the financial services industries in general, insurance specifically, would be an asset

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.  In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
