Specialty Underwriting, New Graduate Rotational Program (September 2025 Start)
We are seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our Specialty Underwriting, New Graduate Rotational Program. This program is designed for students who are either about to graduate, or who have graduated within the last two years. The program will provide recent graduates with a comprehensive understanding of specialty underwriting within the insurance industry. As a participant in the program, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop a strong foundation in specialty underwriting through a structured rotation across different areas of the business.
The program includes a structured learning plan, plenty of social opportunities to interact and meet others in the field, and access to business leaders who’ll guide and mentor you along the way. Learning through experience, you’ll have the chance to contribute to the growth of our business from the start.
When your program is complete, you'll have advanced business knowledge of the company, new skills and insights, excellent growth opportunities, and are expected to continue your career path by obtaining a role within one of the rotations.
Rotational program length: Two-years – oneyear placements in the business areas listed.
Rotation business areas: Specialty Energy and Property and Professional Lines
What can you expect in this role?
- At the junior level the incumbent is assigned risks that have a medium to high potential to generate severe losses. The underwriter is responsible for underwriting all business that does not qualify to be written through the regular branch to the high hazard of the operations.
- Support Commercial Region/Segment Leadership in obtaining timely, relevant metrics in an efficient manner to limit duplication of work with Commercial Insurance Operational lead roles.
- Assessing the risk and accepting or declining new business submissions, policy changes, and renewals.
- The incumbent will apply basic underwriting judgement that is still developing and will rely on the senior members of the team for guidance. The incumbent is building their understanding of rating structures, forms of coverage, re-insurance applications, and knowledge of hazards.
- Operational oversight
- Supports Specialty Lines in managing the roadmap for Commerical Insurance initiatives (e.g., KPI measurement enhancements, process improvements, and alignment) – including risks / issues, reporting on progress against milestones.
- Supports governance and oversight of Commercial Insurance initiative tracking, communication and escalations.
- Project and focused assignments
What do you bring to the role?
- Degree or diploma in business, economics, or a relevant discipline
- Strong financial acumen
- Willingness to obtain your Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RRLU) designation
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Positive and can-do-attitude
- Collaborative; team player
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
