What can you expect in this role?

Definity Insurance is continuing its build of an in-house legal team.  We have an exciting opportunity to join a growing litigation team, within the Accident Benefits group!

The Legal Assistant will be part of the Definity Insurance legal department and will be responsible for assisting in all administrative duties of the Accident Benefits area.  The successful candidate will work under the direction and guidance of two lawyers and will assist with tasks as assigned.

  • Be responsible for the ongoing administrative/organization of files
  • Draft correspondence and serve/file LAT documents
  • Schedule examinations under oath, meetings, and various hearings at Court and/or LAT
  • Maintain Legal Counsels’ calendar and supervising their practice
  • Provide input into the procedures and practices
  • Work within a paperless environment, ensuring electronic filing is up to date
  • Perform other duties as required of a Litigation Assistant

What do you bring to the role?

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant as part of a team practicing insurance litigation and/or Accident Benefits in Ontario
  • Knowledge of License Appeal Tribunal Disputes and Knowledge of Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office Applications
  • Excellent document management skills with ability to utilize the various software systems such as TeamConnect and ACL
  • Priority, Loss Transfer and Superior Court Experience an asset 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in filings with the My Ontario Account
  • High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information
  • Great attention to detail with proof reading skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities

  • Team player, adaptable to a changing environment

Salary range is $42,400 - $78,100.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.  In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
