What can you expect in this role?
The Senior Financial Analyst, Capital Management has the unique opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities as part of the Capital Management team of a growing public company, including capital planning, forecasting, effective allocation, and optimization initiatives:
- Actively participate in capital and treasury activities as a public company, including:
- Raising capital (debt, preferred shares and hybrid securities, equity, etc.)
- Analyzing and optimizing cost of capital
- Shareholder distributions, including dividends and share buybacks
- M&A due diligence, funding and integration
- Intercorporate transactions
- Regularly prepare and present capital management analysis and recommendations to senior leaders and the board of directors
- Perform risk-adjusted return on capital modeling and make recommendations to senior leaders to help improve financial results
- Monitor and propose actions to maintain regulatory capital ratios within our target range and ensure they remain in-line with our risk appetite
- Contribute to the quarterly and annual business plan and short-term forecasting processes by preparing the investment income, balance sheet, cash flow and capital forecasts
- Support the ongoing preparation of capital-related investor relations materials including key messaging on capital management strategy and execution
- Engage in the annual credit rating process, including preparing management presentations and performing credit rating modeling
- Lead the preparation of financial analysis, including building and adapting complex models to address requests from senior leaders, investors, regulators or credit rating agencies
- Work closely with a variety of teams including Treasury, Corporate Development, Corporate Finance, Legal, Investments, Actuarial, Risk and Reinsurance
What do you bring to this role?
- Completed university degree, preferably in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
- CPA designation (completed or nearing qualification) strongly preferred
- 3-6 years of finance experience in any of the following areas: capital management, financial statement analysis, budgeting/forecasting, financial reporting, public accounting, or similar
- Ability to analyze and understand the implications of business activities on the financial statements
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze complex accounting policies and standards, with specific knowledge and experience with IFRS considered an asset
- Strong Excel and financial modelling skills, with excellent attention to detail and proficient analytical skills
- Ability to produce clear reports and presentations, including strong working knowledge of PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization, including C-level executives
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Self-starter who can identify opportunities for improvement and execute on them
- Prior experience in financial services industries in general, and insurance specifically, would be an asset but is not required
Salary range is $59,400 - $118,100.
Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
