In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of Underwriting Technicians and manage day-to-day underwriting operations
- Develop, coach/mentor and manage the performance of your Direct Reports
- Participate in strategic workforce management activities
- Gather & provide real-time insights to deliver strong results on our business objectives
What can you expect in this role?
- Contribute to the profitable growth of Economical's commercial insurance business by implementing standardized underwriting processes and services that meet or exceed broker needs and expectations.
- Lead a team of underwriting technicians managing the day-to-day underwriting operations related to preparing quotes, new business and renewals, change requests, cancellations, etc. for Regional Underwriting Operations, Auto and Property products within your Region
- Ensure the team implements processes in accordance with underwriting guidelines, standard operating procedures, and Economical's line of business and segmentation strategies.
- Within established underwriting authority and service levels, facilitate the team's escalation of underwriting referrals
- Work with your leader and direct reports to drive strong performance against service level agreements, productivity levels, profitability targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop, coach/mentor and manage the performance of Direct Reports, including identification of areas where performance improvement plans are needed to ensure achievement of business, functional and individual productivity levels and service level agreements
- Build a culture of high performance and sustained profitable growth by promoting and supporting an environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism
- Actively champion strategic change initiatives withing the Regional Processing team, building an understanding and buy-in within the team
- Act as a primary voice to his/her team for communicating relevant changes to Regional Processing operating models and processes
- Provide insight, information and recommendations related to underwriting service delivery and broader organizational/enterprise continuous improvement initiatives as needed to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships
What do you bring to the role?
- University degree in any discipline, or College diploma in a relevant discipline
- 2-3 years of relevant Underwriting experience, including 1-3 years of formal / informal supervisory experience managing a team of resources in the Commercial Insurance industry
- CIP designation, or a commitment to completing the CIP
- Strong customer service, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer literacy skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders
