What can you expect in this role?

Definity’s Enterprise Data Office (EDO) is dedicated to facilitating the governance and standardization of Definity’s data and driving initiatives to operationalize and embed Data Governance and Management capabilities across the organization. 

The Data Quality Specialist is a key EDO team member who is primarily responsible for enabling an enterprise-wide data quality capability.  This individual will collaborate with stakeholders from across the organization - such as data stewards, SMEs and data custodians - to develop data quality rules, processes and controls to enhance accuracy and integrity of our enterprise data.  The role will be responsible for day-to-day Data Quality (DQ) operations, including supporting the intake of new data quality controls: checks, rule writing, process creation, and reporting.

  • Manage Data Quality and conduct business administration activities; support on-boarding of data assets and users, allocation of roles and responsibilities, configure workflows and reports.    
  • Support the business intake processes related to data quality (e.g., data quality requirements capture, technical requirements for system connection), document and consolidate inputs from different stakeholders, and support data governance roles (data owners and stewards) in ensuring compliance with data governance standards and processes.                                           
  • Work with business & technology partners to develop practical plans and solutions to remediate identified data quality issues and problems.                             
  • Develop and maintain education/training tools and documents (e.g. SharePoint sites, newsletters) as well as conduct knowledge sharing sessions on key data quality topics to applicable audiences.                          
  • Share regular updates with stakeholders regarding proposed solutions, timelines, progress, and issues.                                                   

What do you bring to this role?

  • University degree required, Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science, or other Technology field preferred                                                        
  • 2-3 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata management or Data Analysis (insurance/financial services industry preferred).  2-3 years of experience capturing and documenting complex business and functional requirements; Knowledge and understanding of data governance challenges and best practices for data quality                                                           
  • Exposure to Data Governance or Data Quality tools (such as Collibra, IBM IIS, Informatica, etc.) and working knowledge of Big Data, Data Lakes.  Exposure to the Insurance technology ecosystem is a nice to have; Experience with data profiling or defining data quality rules is an asset.  1-2 years of SQL, BPMN and REST API experience is preferred     
  • Ability to identify problems/opportunities, analyze root cause, and present recommendations; Experience working with multiple teams to drive alignment and results; strong stakeholder management skills, attention to detail, sense of urgency, and commitment to deadlines
