Role Location: Hybrid

The Investment department, which manages over $5 billion is assets, is critical to the profitability of the company as investment returns have been a significant contributor to corporate profits.  

The Analyst, Equity Investments, will have primary responsibility for fundamental analysis of Canadian equities in a variety of sectors. You will be responsible for the generation of investment ideas for consideration in the equity portfolio. The position works directly with the Portfolio Manager - Equity Investments and the Assistant Portfolio Manager - Equity Investments.

What can you expect in this role?

  • Fundamental Analysis:
    • The Analyst will be responsible for fundamental analysis of Canadian equities in several sectors of the portfolio. Coverage of additional sectors may be allocated on a go-forward basis. This research will include in-depth financial statement analysis. The ability to create a financial model will be important. Analysis of all pertinent risk factors is required including political, regulatory and industry information. Accuracy and attention to detail will be essential.
  • Portfolio Management:
    • The Analyst, Canadian Equities will also have responsibility for generating investment ideas in their area of sector coverage. Comprehensive research supporting the recommendation will be required. The Analyst is tasked with daily review of all pertinent market information within their sectors of coverage to provide value added input to overall portfolio management.
  • Investment Information Reporting:
    • The Analyst will be responsible for both verbal and written reporting with respect to their coverage sector. This reporting will include but not be limited to conference calls, earnings reports, important company events and sector conferences. The Analyst will also be tasked with a variety of internal reporting on an ad hoc basis.
  • Investment Performance Reporting:
    • Monthly and quarterly reporting as needed, including the creation of presentation materials for the Board of Directors and Senior Executives (CEO, CFO). Regular liaising with the Finance and ERM teams in order to provide accurate portfolio performance and up-to-date information on risk limits.

What do you bring to the role?

  • A degree in a quantitative discipline (engineering, science) or business/economics/finance is required
  • Enrolment in, or completion of the CFA designation is essential
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills required to appropriately evaluate the investment potential of equity assets
  • Report writing/presentation skills
  • Organizational/time-management skills
  • A highly motivated team player who ‘thinks outside the box’
  • A desire to learn and expand your skill set
  • A demonstrated enthusiasm for public market investing
  • The ability to work under pressure
