Corporate Services – Project Manager 

 

Role Location: Hybrid -based out of Waterloo, ON

 

The Project Manager, Corporate Services successfully manages the delivery of projects across the different phases of the Project Management Life Cycle (I.e., feasibility, planning, execution, monitoring/controlling, closing) while leveraging and enhancing the Corporate Services PMO framework. The incumbent is expected to deliver projects across the enterprise leveraging a reasonable understanding of construction and facilities management practices, terminology, and processes. The Project Manager seeks to facilitate the achievement of business goals within Definity by providing the right level of project management expertise, leadership, organization, sense of urgency, and risk mitigation. 

 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Project Delivery Management 
    • Plans and initiates projects defining project scope, schedule, budget, and resources 
    • Develops and documents detailed project requirements 
    • Leads and manages the delivery of projects to ensure that they are delivered on-time and within budget 
    • Manages internal and external stakeholder activities and expectations, including contractor and vendor relationships 
  • Project Reporting & Issue Resolution 
    • Monitors project delivery status 
    • Identifies, quantifies, communicates, and drives resolution of issues, risks, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies associated with projects 
    • Prepares and delivers weekly status and steering committee reports
    • Provides recommendations to senior leaders on resolution of project risks, issues, and priorities 
  • Project Scoping and Planning 
    • Collaborates with CS leadership on planning and prioritizing projects
    • Develops feasibility and project charter documents 
    • Develops high-level requirements 
    • Determines and refines budgetary and resource estimates 
  • Adoption of Corporate Services Project Framework 
    • Adopts established CS guiding principles, foundational processes / procedures, stage gating, and controls to ensure consistent project delivery practices 
    • Contributes enhancement ideas to the PMO framework, processes, and templates  
    • Establishes and maintains project oversight / governance processes 
    • Ensures that appropriate oversight committees are in place and meet regularly 
    • Uses project management tools (e.g., SharePoint, MSP) in day-to-day performance of responsibilities 
  • Measurement of Project Metrics 
    • Aggregates financial and non-financial data at the project level 
    • Prepares project closeout report and presents project outcomes, obtains agreement and project sign-off 
    • Works with Finance and project sponsors to track delivery costs and determine benefits realization post implementation 
  • Relationship Management and Knowledge Sharing 
    • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams 
    • Liaises with Technology Services to ensure open and continuous communication around expectations, progress, challenges, and risks 
    • Engages in the sharing of lessons learned and best practices in project management 

What you bring 

  • University Degree or college diploma preferred or equivalent experience in construction or project management
  • 2+ years’ experience delivering projects in a project manager role
  • Experience in the construction, renovation, or facilities projects 
  • Knowledge and application of Waterfall project management methodology 
  • PMP or relevant industry-related certifications considered an asset 
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, MS Project, or other project planning software is an asset 
  • Ability to remain calm and apply critical thinking, even under pressure, and perform well in a busy environment 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with others to achieve results 
  • Experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry and its related practices and processes is considered an asset
