We are looking for a talented and passionate team-player to join the Digital team as a Senior Android Developer. You’ll be playing a big part in building the next evolution of our platform as we move to provide extensive new digital capabilities to our clients, working alongside a strong team of architects, developers, product managers and designers. Your work will contribute to the delivery, reliability, and optimization of the digital mobile applications, leveraging the latest Android based tooling and best practices. What can you expect in this role?

  • Work with a team of skilled software developers to create a rapidly evolving consumer-facing mobile platform
  • Write high-quality code that is performant, reusable, and secure while adhering to industry best practices
  • Proactively identify technical debt and seek ways to improve via refactoring of code
  • Deploy, Maintain & Support Android mobile applications
  • Develop technical designs that support maintenance and support requirements
  • Collaborate with Tech Lead and Mobile Architect to document solutions that is complete, accurate, auditable, and traceable to business and/or systems requirements
  • Verify that solution documentation is complete, accurate, auditable, and traceable to business and/or systems requirements
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency
  • Assist in the translation of requirements into a story map in collaboration with the Discovery Team
  • Design and maintain re-usable mobile assets
  • Is responsible for unit testing and system testing their code

What do you bring to the role?

  • University Degree or college diploma in computer science, information systems or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of Android development (conceptualization, design, and development), including experience with Kotlin, Java, Android SDK/NDK
  • Experience in publishing an application to Google Play Store
  • Knowledge of Jetpack Compose is an asset
  • Familiarity with different software design patterns, with experience providing hands-on architectural design for native Android apps
  • Strong computer science fundamentals in object-oriented design, algorithms, and data structures
  • Experience building applications that consume RESTful APIs and third-party libraries
  • A strong advocate of software craftsmanship, object-oriented and SOLID principles, and clean code architecture
  • Good knowledge of Android/Material UI design best practices. Willing and able to provide designers with constructive feedback
  • Proficient understanding of code versing tools such as Git
  • Experience and basic understanding of collaboration tools such as: JIRA, Confluence and Slack
  • Practical understanding of PaaS and micro-service architecture
  • Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle
  • Portfolio, GitHub (or another open-source account), list of published works is a plus
